  68. 1.3 SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
  69.  
  70.     A.  Masonry stain system specified herein is a penetrating,
  71.         permanent, non-fading liquid solution, resisting
  72.         ultraviolet light degradation, flaking, or peeling from
  73.         the substrate, and allowing moisture vapor transmission.
  74.         The system shall not appreciably change the masonry
  75.         surface texture or leave a glossy finish.
  76.  
  77.     B.  Liquid water repellents specified herein are clear, deep-
  78.         penetrating, non-film forming, non-silicone, non-
  79.         yellowing chemical solutions.
  80.  
  81. 1.4 SUBMITTALS
  82.  
  83.     A.  Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
  84.  
  85.     B.  Product Data:  Three copies of manufacturer's current
  86.         technical data sheets for materials.
  87. NOTE ** Delete the following paragraph if samples are not
  88.         required.
  89.  
  90.     C.  Samples:
  91.         1.  Opaque:  One draw down of each specified color.
  92.         2.  Semi-Transparent:  Substrate with two transparent
  93.             variations.
  94.  
  95. 1.5 QUALITY ASSURANCE
  96.  
  97.     A.  Installer Qualifications:  Minimum five years experience
  98.         regularly engaged and specializing in the application of
  99.         specialty surface treatments to exterior wall substrates.
  100.  
  101.     B.  Pre-Installation Meetings:
  102.         1.  Before Application:  Installer and Manufacturer's
  103.             Representative shall inspect surfaces to be treated,
  104.             noting in writing to the Architect, deficiencies or
  105.             flaws in the substrate construction which would
  106.             affect the performance or appearance of the masonry
  107.             stain.
  108.         2.  Beginning of Application:  Manufacturer's
  109.             Representative shall assure utilization of proper
  110.             equipment, verify material quantities, and supervise
  111.             material application techniques upon a substantial
  112.             wall section.  This wall section shall act as a
  113.             comparative standard for the project.
  114.  
  115.     C.  Installer shall not proceed with material application
  116.         until all deficiencies noted in pre-application
  117.         inspection report have been corrected.
  118.  
  119.     D.  Installer shall notify manufacturer no less than 3 days
  120.         before starting application.
  121.  
  122. 1.6 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
  123.  
  124.     A.  Deliver materials in original sealed containers, clearly
  125.         marked with manufacturer's name, type of material, and
  126.         batch number.
  127.  
  128.     B.  Inspect the materials upon delivery to assure that
  129.         specified products have been received.
  130.  
  131.     C.  Store materials where temperatures are not less than 45
  132.         degrees F (7 degrees C).
  133.  
  134.     D.  Use all means necessary to protect material before,
  135.         during, and after installation, and to protect work of
  136.         other trades.
  137.  
  138. 1.7 ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  139.  
  140.     A.  Comply with current Federal and State environmental
  141.         requirements.
  142. NOTE ** Delete the following article if no warranties are
  143.         required, or if work is covered under the terms of
  144.         a general project warranty specified elsewhere.
  145.         You may edit the article to obtain a warranty from
  146.         the Contractor only, or to suit other project-
  147.         specific criteria.

  149. 1.8 WARRANTY
  150.  
  151.     A.  Manufacturer Warranty:  Supply materials manufacturer's
  152.         warranty against water intrusion, flaking, or peeling.
  153. NOTE ** Contact manufacturer for warranty period based on
  154.         project requirements and select appropriate
  155.         subparagraph below.
  156.         1.  Warranty Period:  Five years from date of Substantial
  157.             Completion.
  158.         2.  Warranty Period:  Ten years from date of Substantial
  159.             Completion.
  160.  
  161.     B.  Installer Warranty:  Warrant workmanship for a period of
  162.         two years from the date of Substantial Completion.

  212. PART 3  EXECUTION
  213.  
  214. 3.1 EXAMINATION
  215.  
  216.     A.  Verify that surfaces to be coated are in proper
  217.         condition.
  218.         1.  New substrates: Cured 30 days before application.
  219.         2.  Cured substrates:  Allowed to dry three to seven days
  220.             in clear warm weather following rainfall before
  221.             application.
  222.         3.  Substrate moisture content:  No higher than 15
  223.             percent as registered on an electronic moisture
  224.             meter.
  225.  
  226.     B.  Verify that voids in masonry joints or joints found to be
  227.         unsound or defective have been raked out and pointed with
  228.         mortar to create a joint of full-face shell thickness.
  229.  
  230.     C.  Where freezing conditions exist before application, allow
  231.         adequate time for building to thaw.
  232.  
  233. 3.2 PREPARATION
  234.  
  235.     A.  Thoroughly clean substrates of foreign substances, such
  236.         as dirt, efflorescence, and mortar spills.
  237.         1.  Use "dry" cleaning method where practicable.
  238.         2.  Allow three days minimum dry time in warm weather
  239.             before applying material if wet cleaning method is
  240.             utilized.
  241.  
  242.     B.  Protect windows and work of other trades against damage
  243.         by coating, whether to be coated or not.
  244.  
  245.     C.  Protect plant life against damage from coatings.
  246.  
  247. 3.3 APPLICATION
  248.  
  249.     A.  Apply materials in strict accordance with manufacturer's
  250.         recommendations and when substrate surface temperature is
  251.         between 45 and 90 degrees F (7 and 32 degrees C).
  252.         1.  Follow instruction in manufacturer's current
  253.             technical data sheet for general information and
  254.             coverage rates.
  255.  
  256.     B.  Spray apply water repellent using high-volume, low-
  257.         pressure spray equipment; allow to cure 24 hours before
  258.         application of masonry stain.
  259.  
  260.     C.  Spray apply masonry stain using airless spray equipment.
  261.  
  262.     D.  Clean all drips, runs, and overspray residue while still
  263.         wet.
  264.  
  265. 3.4 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
  266.  
  267.     A.  Manufacturer's Representative shall inspect all treated
  268.         surfaces after work is complete to verify proper
  269.         application.
  270.  
  271. 3.5 ADJUSTING AND CLEANING
  272.  
  273.     A.  If damage occurs, immediately make all repairs and
  274.         replacements necessary at no additional cost to Owner.
  275.  
  276.     B.  During process of work, remove discarded materials,
  277.         rubbish, cans, and rags at end of each workday.
  278.  
  279.     C.  Correct any damage by cleaning and repairing or
  280.         replacing, as acceptable to Architect.
